It is a simple way to communicate things that needs to be fixed within salesforce. for example, i use it to let our operations know to apporve an opportunity to move it to closed won.
It can get lost in the shuffle sometimes and can be missed by the person you are trying to chatter. Does not happen often, but not always fun to double chatter

It is a real time social network for the company and provides an effective and efficient way of connecting employees together. The best thing is that the looks is very much familiar with famous social networking sites and customers and employees can connect and collaborate and to keep a track on productivity altogether.
There are still many things which can be evolved. It is lacking some features in comparison of other social networks in the market.
I used Chatter for connecting with other employees and customers. I have used its trail version. It has also free version only for collaborating features.

SF chatter is a simplest way of communication to a group or whole organisation, for me it’s very helpful as it gives me global updates on what’s happening around in the market and new development in my organisation

Chatter is a great tool, that is enabling different teams within an organization to easily chat and keep an accurate log of all the communication between teams and past teams on key accounts.
Some of the communication isn't as urgent as it may seem, and it will log that information permanently. You want to make sure that your team knows to only include urgent/very important information, and the rest can be instant messaged, emailed, or texted.

I enjoy that Chatter allows the user, at a glance, to see EXACTLY what activity has happened, when it occurred, and who touched it last.
it can be a bit unwieldy when you get into the bigger projects. there is a "collapse" function that aids in that somewhat, but you lose that point-by-point visibility
Chatter makes it easy to check in with teams on the status of multiple projects at once. I manage a bunch of titles at once, and having that 'at-a-glance' control is a huge timesave

You can keep direct contact with team members without clogging your email. Easy to tag team members to bring their attention to a post. And easy to navigate no matter how tech savvy you are.

I like the "news feed" aspect to Chatter. When looking at specific contacts or opportunities it is helpful to have any/all notes stored in one common area. If I need to go back and look at a meeting I had with a prospect, all of my and my teams call notes are posted in Chatter.
One feature I would like to see is a notification system for Chatter threads. For example, if I have posted in the Chatter on an opportunity, and someone else posts Chatter to the same opp a week later, I would like a notification.
No problems with Chatter; it has been very convenient for my team and I to use. One note: we mainly use Salesforce Classic so I'm unsure of how Chatter performs within Lightning.
I like how you can always see when notes and comments are edited. It allows for appropriate compliance for CSM managers.
I haven't seen anything yet that I dislike.

What I loved best about Chatter was the ability to talk to anyone that I work with in the Salesforce universe from one spot. It is really easy to @ someone with a comment or a question. I also like how if someone @'s you, you get notifications in your email and in salesforce. It is impossible to miss if someone is trying to get your attention.
There isn't really anything I dislike about Chatter proper. The one thing that is annoying is that when you receive the email from the chatter system, you cannot get the whole picture. Attachments won't come through and you have to login to Salesforce. It is not always convenient to log in when email is so much easier on the go.
Collaboration comes to mind. Instead of finding time to chat on the phone or on a video conference, I like that chatter allows me to send whatever I want when I want and I know that the other person is going to see it and reply
