Twilio SendGrid Email API Pricing Overview

Nothing that I liked particularly, we started using the Sendgrid Marketing tools because we are Sendgrid API users, so it made sense to have everything in the same platform.

The pricing model is not good if you have large subscriber lists that you contact frequently, as they charge $10/10k contacts. Any decently sized ecommerce platform will struggle to justify the cost of idle subscribers in Sendgrid. Also the tool is not very sophisticated in terms of A/B testing, timezone split of sends etc - overall a pretty immature product for the price.

We use this tool for all marketing emails.

The API is easy to integrate with just about any service out there. The documentation is solid and covers multiple use-cases/languages, and the webhooks are reliable and easy to understand. Additionally, the pricing is very reasonable, especially compared to other Email API solutions.

The email design tool is not at polished as competing solutions aimed purely at marketing-based emails (Mailchimp, for example). There are a decent amount of bugs, and it's relatively frustrating to use. Still, we primarily use SendGrid for the API, not the email-design tools, so this is not a dealbreaker for us, and the prices are much more modest than competing marketing solutions.

We use the SendGrid Email API to automate internal email delivery from our web and mobile app. We also occasionally use the free marketing and design tools included in SendGrid.

1. Reliability - Its uptime is pretty excellent and gives me the confidence to send bulk emails without any fear at anytime. 2. Templates - It comes with a sound library of templates that I customize with my data and save for future usage. 3. Analytics - Its monitoring dashboard helps me understand my customer experiences, and I can pull in this data externally for further analysis.

1. High Price - It has been heavily rising its prices, which I find difficult to comprehend. I might choose other alternatives since my use-cases are not as complex. 2. Long Support Wait Times - Even for an upgraded package, the support is not real-time and you have to wait till a long time to get in contact with a real-person.

We use SendGrid APIs in our platform for all end-user communications via SMS. Since we operate at scale with complex developer requirements, we chose SendGrid over other vendors. It's reliability and heavy customer-focused features are the primary reasons for my overall positive review. However, the pricing model is pretty expensive and wouldn't recommend for others who might not need all the advanced features.

Compared to marketer-centric ESPs like Mailchimp, not as intuitive to use Reporting isn't great - they want you to export (eg via API/webhooks). Email activity only stored for 30 days which is problematic for customer service to track down a customer's email history. Basic reports e.g. open/clicks don't seem to work when you toggle to a percentage.

Easy integration with our core platform (Heroku) with a low-cost and high level of flexibility/customisation to suit our business.

Not much. Sendgrid used to be the leader.

Sendgrid now has crazy overage fees. Sendgrid's mission is to squeeze you out of every penny. Look closely at their extra fees or you'll get totally hosed for what used to be simply an smtp email service.

Sendgrid gets me more credit card miles because its so expensive.

It is straightforward to integrate using the API key. A dashboard to track opens, clicks, deliverability metrics, geographical data, unsubscribes, and bounce is excellent. Their unsubscribe group feature is their USB. We can easily add multiple sending domains on one account without limitations, which other ESP usually have; even domain authentication using SPF and DKIM is hassle-free using our domain cpanel. They even have an email id verification feature so that we can minimize our email bounce rate.

Pricing is a little costly even for bulk emails, but being a premium product with best-in-the-industry deliverability, it justifies its pricing somewhat. To check the email send activity of a particular user, only the last seven days' data is available; to extent the limit, we need to pay more.

We use Twilio SendGrid Email API to send our transactional and triggered emails, which include order tracking, order confirmation, support tickets, forgot passwords, and OTP emails. Using this email service API and aur inbuild system, we can easily send emails that to dynamic/personalized without facing any issues.

Getting setup and running was a smooth and seamless process. We switched over from Mandrill after they decided to combine the product with MailChimp and increase pricing. SendGrid even offered a similar plan with free credits to make the switch a no-brainer. Soon after we started paying for an account due to increased Email sending. However from the first level to the next is a big price increase for a small business getting started. Being a small niche SaaS product and having the white labelling functionality is great, helps out customers trust in us more which is a huge benefit. Tracking covers a lot of statuses which is great at an overview, however there is also times where this is inaccurate. We use the SendGrid API as well as SMTP and found it super simple to setup with a number of libraries available and good documentation.

There hasn't been too much to dislike at this point. We have had some minor problems with SMTP timeouts from time to time but they normally recover after a few minutes, not really ideal for some of our messages. Support can be slow to respond to questions from time to time. Had issues with shared IPs being blacklisted and being at the mercy of SendGrid to resolve or pay the huge jump in price for a small business getting started without funding to get a dedicated IPs and a Pro account. Needing to have a PRO account for sub user management.

We allow our customers to craft their own internal emails to send to their own employees using the API and also send app based transactional emails using SMTP relay.
